Today many of us live high stressed and high paced lifestyles, and in an attempt to keep up with these lifestyles we takeshortcuts especially surrounding what we eat.  We often cheat ourselves and our bodies by not taking the time to prepare a decent meal or snack.  Instead, in an effort to save time we just pick up the nearest fast food or packaged snack. Which while it may be convenient for your schedule it is not convenient for your body to handle.

Many of the processed and prepared foods you purchase are loaded with unhealthy fats and unneeded carbs.  Avoiding fast food and processed food is essential for any athlete looking to make physical gains and the best way to do this is through preparation.  Preparation is crucial to the success of any athlete’s nutritional program.

If you are a dedicated athlete you should take time the night before to prepare the food you wish to consume the next day.  Use reusable containers to separate your meals into individual servings. While it is better to eat as much real food as possible you can substitute a meal with a protein shake if needed. Protein shakes are convenient because they are easily prepared and stored.

Preparation is so important because without it you place yourself at risk for not following your nutritional plan.  By having something prepared you eliminate the risk of eating something wrong or missing meals.  Preparation also will save you money in the long run, because eating out adds up over time. Bottom line: take time to prepare.
