Semitendinosus (Hamstring)

Description The hamstring is located in the back of the leg, and has three parts: Semitendinosus, Semimembranosus, and the Biceps femoris.  All three work in unison to control the movement and flexing of the knee joint.  The hamstring is a crucial muscle in an athlete’s life, as it plays a role in running, jumping, and walking.

Muscle Name Gluteus Maximus (Butt)
Description Commonly known as the buttocks, the Gluteus Maximus is a very large muscle.  Its aids in numerous leg movements; it plays a role in hip rotation, knee flexation, and body erection.  While standing it supports the knees in an upright position, and while sitting it maintains back stability.

Latissimus Dorsi (Lats)

Muscle Name Latissimus Dorsi (Lats)
Description The Latissimus Dorsi’s are located on the midsection of the back.  It is the broadest muscles of the back, where it gets its name (Latis meaning broad in Latin).  The Lats are extremely important for the shoulder, back, and the arms.  They aid in extension, arm movements, and back control.
