Will ND Finally Give In And Loose Its Independent Status?
With the BCS structure up in the air, and both the Big 10 and Pac 10 looking to possibly expand, the question remains: is Notre Dame going to finally give up its independence?
Notre Dame, previous to recent years, has always been one of the most dominant football teams year in and year out. With the third most wins all time and tying for the most Heisman trophy winners, ND is one of the great american football teams. The school always seems to have this alure about it; strange things happen with this school that just make you ask why! For instance, even with poor season in recent years, they have one of the most lucrative TV deals of any team with NBC, reported being worth 9 million a year.
Adding to this allure is the schools independent status… They belong to the Big East for basketball, but prefer to call their own shots in football. Finally this may come to an end. As a Big 10 fan, I would love to see Notre Dame as an addition. It would work perfect! They already have legendary rivalries with Michigan and Ohio State, amongst others less prestigious; plus they gain valuable BCS leverage in terms of achieving a National Championship.
Make the right decision ND, join the Big 10! We would love to see you! (And beat up on you…. Michigan Fan

In Or Out? The Fighting Illini!
Before I even start with this, I am going to admit that this will be slightly biased in favor of Illinois since I am a student here. So lets get it started. The question is, will the Fighting Illini make it into this year tournament?
Strengths and Weaknesses:
I really like that the Illini are a young team and can still pull off big wins. They only have one senior on their roster, who receives relatively low playing time, plus they have some big play freshman and an even better recruiting class next year. Sorry about that tangent; its this year we are worried about!
Their lack of leadership makes them relatively inconsistent: they have won huge games away against Wisconsin, away against Clemson, home against Michigan State, and home against Vanderbilt. One the contrary, they have lost games they should have won against weak teams such as Northwestern and Utah, and had an embarrassing performance against Minnesota the other night, scoring only 14 points in the first half.
Along with these loses, the fact that only 6 of their 18 wins have been against opponents ranked higher then 149 is going to hurt them. If they want to be guaranteed a spot, they need to win at least one of their two next games, against tough opponents Wisconsin and Ohio State, along with at least one or two wins in the Big 10 tournament.
In or Out?!
So its all been laid out.. are they in or out?
My vote puts them IN! This team is a young talented team capable of big wins. They would be a great addition to the tournament and deserve a spot.
Really Now? More Tiger?
Tiger has made headlines across the sports world once again today with yet another one of his endorsements dropping. Everyone heard about about Accenture and AT&T dropping him back when the whole mistress mayhem was in its prime; however, today it was confirmed that Pepsi’s Gatorade has been added to the list.
This of course, was after what in my opinion was a very sincere apology last week. Now I just have a question: When are they going to give this a rest? This entire story has gotten way out of hand. If you disagree, get a load of this FACT: Tiger Wood’s name appeared on the front page of the New York Times more consecutive days than the September 11 terrorist attacks. Where are our priorities as a country?
Tiger Woods is just a guy who made a major mistake in his life. He has and will be paying his debt to society for a long time to come in terms of his damaged reputation. The world should move on with their lives and the media should let him move on with his life rather than continuing to milk these stories for more money.
To conclude this ….rant… about the media, Gatorade is out of line to drop him when they did. It would have been completely fine to drop him when this first started happening, but why now? When he finally makes a move in the right direction they drop him.
Do yourself and Tiger a favor, and stop paying attention to these stories!
