Garciaparra Retires
Nomar Garciaparra retired yesterday as a Boston Red Sox. Garciaparra was a member of the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Oakland A’s. During the middle of his career he was kind of injury prone which hindered his true abilities. Most of Garciaparra’s best years came with the Boston Red Sox where he was regarded as one of the best shortstops in the league. Garciaparra was one of the most versatile players in the league, being able to play shortstop (his primary position), first base, third base, outfield, and even designated hitter with his batting abilities.
Nomar Garciaparra is loved in the baseball world. He was selected to the All-Star game six times, won the Rookie of the Year, Silver Slugger award, NL comeback player of the year award, and won the Batting title twice with the Red Sox. Garciaparra finished his career with a .313 batting average, 938 RBI’s, and 229 Home Runs. Garciaparra will be missed by many in baseball, he was a terrific player and a great role model for kids. Garciaparra will join ESPN to be an analyst for Baseball tonight.
Roethlisberger accused of sexual assault
Ben Roethlisberger was accused of sexual misconduct. He allegedly sexually assaulted a 20 year old college woman at a nightclub in a college town. This is Roethlisberger’s 2nd time he has been involved in a sexual assault or misconduct in a year. Roethlisberger was also accused of raping a young woman at the Lake Tahoe hotel and casino in 2008.
According to the nightclub owner, Roethlisberger went into the VIP room with three big men and they did not allow any other men to enter the room. According to sources, there were also about 20 to 30 women going in and out of the VIP room of the club during the night. The Police in Milledgeville, Georgia are investigating the incident to see what actually happened. It is hard to say what actually happened the two nights where he was accused, but we must remember a few things: he has not been charged on either of these two accusations, and that there have been two accusations. I am starting to get a bit skeptical of Big Bens problems off the field. He is a very likable guy, but this is tainting his reputation drastically and I think he needs to start to take it easy on the whole “clubbing” scene.
2010 Combine in the Books
The 2010 NFL Scouting Combine is more than just a 40 yard dash and a few drills, it is a job interview for a lot of these college stars. The 2010 NFL Scouting Combine wrapped up its drills yesterday with the fastest competitors- the Defensive Backs. Many players increased their value but others seemed to disappoint the NFL scouts.
This 2010 NFL Combine had many players that are likely to be drafted in the top 5 including Ndamukong Suh, Eric Berry, Jimmy Clausen, Sam Bradford, and Gerald McCoy. Many players increased their draft value at the workouts such as USC safety Taylor Mays, who ran an astonishing 4.24 unofficial 40 yard dash and did well in the drills. But who do you want as your first round pick? Do you want the incredible player in stature and athleticism in Gerald McCoy or Ndamukong Suh? Or would you rather prefer a Quarterback or a skill player? Many questions seem to be coming up on who will be drafted in the first few picks. But one thing is for sure, the teams that have the first pick in the draft, the St. Louis Rams and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, need a strong player at the quarterback position. Each team is likely to get a strong performance out of these players week in and week out, but can they bring their team to the top is the question. Do you win games with a new defensive tackle or a franchise quarterback?
In my opinion, if I were the Rams, the Buccaneers, or the Redskins, I would have to choose a quarterback over a DB or a DT. These teams are paying big money to whoever comes out first, but would you want your team to waste that on a Defensive tackle? Ndamukong Suh is an outstanding player, but the DT position does not win games, just ask the Washington Redskins on their huge Free Agent pick up last year of Albert Haynesworth who they paid over 100 million dollars. Look how their season ended. I have written down my opinion, comment to see if you have one of your own.
