Ball Security
This drill is perfect for any back that has trouble handling the ball. It forces the running back to protect the ball when in contact with defenders. It teaches the running back to keep the ball high and tight away from his defenders when in traffic. You cant carry the ball for yards unless you can first learn to hold on to it.
Quickness Drill #2
This drill is very similar to those done on running ropes. It utilizes tires to mimic ropes and forces the running back to take short explosive steps, while keeping their knees. This drill is good practice for running backs looking to improve their productivity in the hole and with yards after contact.
Over The Shoulder Drill
Over The Shoulder Drill- This drill is a catching exercise meant to increase players comfort levels with catching passes that are over the shoulder rather than right in front. Receivers, running backs, and defensive backs should practice this drill.
Have a quarterback and a player line up on the same line. The player will run out 15 yards and the quarterback will simply lob the ball over the players head. Take reps with the quarterback on both the left and right side to practice turning back in different directions. Remember to always look back towards the receiver. For added practice add a trailing defender.
